Beskrivelse: At the height of World War I, when the final outcome could not yet have been anticipated, one of the most controversial court trials in Serbian political history and the biggest scandal of the Serbian government in exile was held in Thessaloniki from the 2nd April to the 5th June 1917. Allegedly, on the 29th August near the village Ostrova, on automobile of the regent Alexander, returning from the front, several shots were fired. After the investigation had been done, members of the organization “Unity or death“, also known as “Black Hand“, headed by Colonel Dragutin Dimitrijević Apis were accused for conspiracy against the dynasty and assassination attempt on King Alexander, heir to the throne. At this trial, Colonel Dragutin Dimitrijević, artillery major Ljubomir Vulović and army standard-bearer Rade Malobabić were sentenced to death (as well as six officers who were later granted amnesty) and Damjan Popović and Bogdan Radenković were sentenced to prison. It is believed that it was a political fight and in the socialist Yugoslavia a revision of the trial was held in 1953, when all convicts were rehabilitated as completely innocent. One-minute coverage from this trial shows driving away the accused Dragutin Dimitrijević Apis, Ljubomir Vulović and Colonel Vladimir Tucović in the car from the military prison to the court house, which was located in the barracks of the Third Army in Thessaloniki.
